Summary/Objective

Under the direction of the CEO and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Northfield Area Family YMCA, the Program Director for Youth Development is responsible for developing, delivering, supervising, administering, managing and evaluating sound operation and high-quality youth development services and programs. This includes camp, teen programming, youth sports, child watch and overall youth development programs. The incumbent will supervise, hire, and train staff and is a member of the Y’s lead team.

1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic operating plans. Build personal and meaningful relationships with members, participants, volunteers, guests, donors and others.

4. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information and ensures website and calendar information is accurate.

5. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

6. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

7. Coordinates the use of facilities for program activities and events.

8. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

9. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of all participation in programs.

10. Works daily to fulfill the Y’s mission of building strong kids, strong families and a strong community.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Program Director – Youth Development will supervise day camp counselors, youth serving program staff, and Child Watch staff and program participants. As a supervisor, the Director will provide direction, coaching, and assistance to all direct reports. Other supervisory tasks will be required, such as managing schedules, approving time cards, providing support, completing performance reviews, and collaborating with YMCA partners.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

1. Perform all physical aspects of the position which include working with youth and adults in activities. Activities may include, a frequent amount of sitting, standing and walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

The expected hours for the Program Director – Youth Development will be daytime hours. There may be times that the Director is expected to work evenings and weekends. The Director will fulfill weekly Manager on Duty shifts during evening hours.

1. Two years or more of education and/or equivalent work-related experiences.

6. Participate in required trainings and certifications.

Program Coordinator - Health & Wellness and Aquatics

Under the guidance from the Program Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for promotion, supervision, and evaluation of the following areas: aquatics, fitness, and personal training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assists in the development of the program area budgets and manages the day to day programming of the aquatics and wellness departments to assure revenue and program services goals and expense targets are achieved.

2. Hires, trains, and coaches employees in the Aquatics and the Health and Wellness Departments with support from the Program Director.

3. Assists the Director with performance management and terminations.

4. Assists, in conjunction with the Director, in managing the budgets of the Aquatics and Health and Wellness Departments.

5. Plans and implements programs and initiatives in the Aquatics and the Health and Wellness Departments under the guidance and in collaboration with the Program Director.

6. Creates lifeguard, swim lesson and wellness staff schedules.

7. Monitors programs to ensure the YMCA objectives are fulfilled. Provides feedback to instructors to improve quality of programming.

8. Manages the fitness orientation program to provide excellent customer service to participants and to ensure member retention.

9. Manages the intake and scheduling of private swim lessons and group lesson inquiries. Administrative functions include but are not limited to email and telephone communications with members and staff.

10. Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures to support consistent and effective processes in the Wellness and Aquatic departments.

Responsible for setting up birthday parties, hosting and running all party activities and clean up after parties.  Position includes communications with parents/guardians and active engagement with youth during event. Responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for all members/guest of all backgrounds and abilities.

The Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) and the Northfield Area Family YMCA are working together on a collaborative transportation venture.  This partnership supports a wide variety of community programs and provides opportunities for youth, families and adults in programs that support unmet community needs.

Under the direction of the YMCA’s Building & Maintenance Director, and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Northfield Area Family YMCA and the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative, van drivers are responsible for transporting students and families over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions in a 15-passenger vehicle; ensuring vehicle is in a safe operating condition and ensuring safety of riders during transport, loading and unloading from the van.

Hours are flexible, most driving is within or close to the Northfield community.  Schedules are created in advance.  Drivers sign up for trips that work in their schedules. Drivers are YMCA employees who support both YMCA and Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) programs.

All YMCA employees who work a minimum of two shifts a week will receive a free YMCA Adult Membership.  Upgrade that members to a Family Membership for the monthly cost difference.

Candidates should be 21 years of age or older and have a no moving violations.

Company Information

The mission of the Northfield Area Family YMCA is to build strong kids, strong families and a stronger community. Since 2005, the Northfield Y has served thousands of youth, families and individuals in the community through its full slate of annual programming, camps, youth sports and fitness offerings utilizing numerous locations. In August 2014, a brand new facility opened to serve our community.  The facility includes an indoor pool, a full service wellness center to include cardio and strength equipment, fitness studio and personal training, child watch (babysitting), locker rooms and a large community multi-purpose room.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains the cleanliness of the Northfield Y; performs general cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, dusting counters, desks, and filing cabinets, emptying wastebaskets, and cleaning drinking fountains.
  2. Restocks toilet paper, hand towels, soap, and trash bags; locks and unlocks doors.
  3. Removes snow, ice and trash from around entryways to the building.
  4. Utilizes various machines and equipment in the delivery of service, such as vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, carpet shampooer, pressure washer, hand tools, snow blower, and snow shovels.

Required Qualifications

1. Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid certification, Child Abuse Prevention, and Bloodborne Pathogen
training within the first 30 days of hire.
2. Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with Y standards.
3. YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent experience.
4. At least 16 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.

Company Information

The mission of the Northfield Area Family YMCA is to build strong kids, strong families and a stronger community. Since 2005, the Northfield Y has served thousands of youth, families and individuals in the community through its full slate of annual programming, camps, youth sports and fitness offerings utilizing numerous locations. In August 2014, a brand new facility opened to serve our community.  The facility includes an indoor pool, a full service wellness center to include cardio and strength equipment, fitness studio and personal training, child watch (babysitting), locker rooms and a large community multi-purpose room.
