Taylor and Mikayla have been volunteering in our Child Watch program since mid-September. They come twice a week and help staff with various projects, not just with the kids! Taylor and Mikayla have stepped up to prep materials for youth programs, preschool classes and Kids Night Out. They’ve pumped up and cleaned basketballs, organized storage areas, and more. They jump right in and get involved with the kids in Child Watch. Abbie, our CW Lead says Taylor and Mikayla are great working with the young toddlers and babies in the morning. They are always willing to help out, clean equipment, or do whatever we need.
Meet Taylor Dougherty
I’m 18 years old and I have attended Northfield Schools my whole life. I am captain of the Northfield High School dance team. My favorite season is fall. In my spare time I like to listen to music and hang out with my friends.
Why did you decide to volunteer at the YMCA?
I chose to volunteer at the Y because I have a membership and I really enjoy the atmosphere of the building. The people and staff at the Y are very friendly. I enjoy watching kids, playing with them and helping them learn in any way that I can.
Memorable volunteer experience at the Y?
The most memorable experience I have had at the Y is when a little boy was just full of energy and would run back and forth around the room. He thought it was so funny to climb into the toy bin and throw everything out. It was entertaining for us.
Meet Mikayla Yetzer
I am 17 years old and have lived in Northfield my whole life. I am a senior at NHS and love sports. I am on the hockey team and have been playing since I was 5. I love being active. In my spare time I like being with my family and friends.
Why did you decide to volunteer at the YMCA?
I decided to volunteer at the YMCA because I am in a service learning class at the Northfield High School. This class allows me to go out in the community and volunteer 2 times a week. I not only volunteer because I am in the service learning class but because I do really enjoy it. Volunteering makes me feel good and makes me feel involved. I love volunteering at the YMCA because everyone is so nice and makes me feel a part of the team.
Memorable volunteer experience at the Y?
My favorite moment was when I was holding a baby: making him happy made me happy. I love seeing the impact that I have on the kids.
