Job Title: Group Exercise Instructors (Ongoing Availability)

Wage Range: $12.42-$20.00 (hourly based on experience)
Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This position reports to the Group Exercise Coordinator.

The Northfield Area Family YMCA is a nonprofit, public charity working to build strong kids, strong families and a strong community. We have ongoing availability for instructors. YMCA exercise instructors who are scheduled for one class a week are eligible for a free Adult Membership at the Y (upgrade to a Family Membership for the difference in cost).
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Keeps accurate class attendance records.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations

- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- Certification in areas of expertise.
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes
Ability to conduct classes and activities.
Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; which could include leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting, depending on each specific class.
The mission of the Northfield Area Family YMCA is to build strong kids, strong families and a stronger community. Since 2005, the Northfield Y has served thousands of youth, families and individuals in the community through its full slate of annual programming, camps, youth sports and fitness offerings utilizing numerous locations. In August 2014, a brand new facility opened to serve our community. The facility includes an indoor pool, a full service wellness center to include cardio and strength equipment, fitness studio and personal training, child watch (babysitting), locker rooms and a large community multi-purpose room.

The Cannon River flows through the city providing picturesque beauty all year round giving that small town feel (pop: 20,000) though just a hop-skip and a jump from the Twin Cities. Northfield is 30 miles south of Minneapolis or 25 driving miles from Burnsville.
