Due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, the 2020 Y Kids Tri has been cancelled.
The Y Kids Tri is a fun, non-competitive triathlon that’s all about getting kids excited to get fit! Kids ages 6-14 will experience a morning of encouragement, cheers and satisfaction of completing this swim, bike and run event. There’s nothing like the excitement of crossing a finish line! No experience is necessary! Kids are encouraged to train during the summer, so it’s a great way for family to get fit together.
All participants will receive a Y Kids Tri t-shirt and medal! Questions? Just give us a call! We’ll send you more detailed information after we receive your registration.
Kids will be divided into 3 waves based on their ages:
Age Range | Wave | Swim Distance | Bike Distance | Run Distance |
6-7 | Red Minnows | 50 Meters | 1.25 Miles | 0.25 Mile |
8-10 | Yellow Sunnies | 50 Meters | 2.50 Miles | 0.50 Mile |
11-14 | Blue Sharks | 100 Meters | 5.00 Miles | 1.00 Mile |
WAVE STARTS: Blue Sharks (ages 11-14) will start first with the swim. Yellow Sunnies (ages 8-10) will go next and Red Minnows (ages 6 & 7) will go last. Kids will be waiting with their group in the pool area. Please consider your child’s comfort during this waiting time and send along a sweatshirt if the weather is chilly.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: The event will go on, rain or shine. In the event of severe weather or lightning, we will follow the established protocol and delay the event as necessary (see FAQ). If the event is delayed more than one hour, it will be canceled. Registrants will still receive their t-shirt and medal. We regret that refunds cannot be issued.
ASSISTANCE ON EVENT DAY: Look for any volunteers in an official volunteer t-shirt to help you as needed.
FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
The Swim
Volunteers will be in the water and lifeguards on duty to make sure kids stay safe. A portion of the swim for kids 8-14 will be in deeper water. Kids ages 6-7 will swim on the shallower half of the lanes. Swim vests are permitted, and practice prior to the event is encouraged so all kids have a positive and confidence-building experience.
The Transition Zone
You’ll have your own spot to set up your bike and gear! Run from the swim to your spot, put on your helmet and get started on your bike!
The Bike
Kids will bike on a safe course on nearby neighborhood streets with volunteers along the entire course.
The Run
After the bike, you’ll drop off your gear and start the run. You’ll run on the field adjacent to the pool so family and friends can cheer you on as you cross the finish line!
