December Volunteer of the Month
Josey Fog has been volunteering at the YMCA since last spring. He helps out in our youth sports programs and at special events like Sports Galore and the Y Kids Tri. He also volunteers with special project needs like sports equipment assembly. Josey can be counted on for his positive attitude while volunteering at our Y programs and is one of the first to raise a hand to volunteer.
I’m from Cottage Grove, MN and I went to college at Minnesota State University Moorhead. I received my undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a minor in Coaching and Leadership Studies. I received my Masters as well in Counseling and Student Affairs and started working at St. Olaf College about a year ago in Residence Life. I get to volunteer as the coach for the Men’s Rugby Club as well.
Why did you decide to volunteer at the YMCA?
I really liked being involved with the community when I lived in Moorhead, MN so I was looking for opportunities in this community that would allow me to be helpful by using my education. When I saw opportunities with the YMCA I thought it would be a great chance to use my Physical Education background.
What is your most memorable volunteer experience?
This summer I had the opportunity to volunteer with Sports Galore and enjoyed working with a small group of kids and see them learning about sports they may have never tried. It was a lot of fun to see them smiling and enjoying a fun night outside. One of my favorite experiences was watching them learn how to punt a football.
