Over 65 hand-made valentines were received by patients and residents at Three Links and Northfield Hospital. The hospital said the long term care residents would be surprised and so happy to get the cards. Many more were shared throughout the community.
The project, aiming to bridge the connection between neighbors and generations, kicked off at the Community Volunteer Fair at the beginning of January. Participants were invited to make a valentine to share with someone they would like to know better or they could choose to leave the valentine to be distributed at Three Links Assisted Living and the Northfield Hospital.
Create-a-Connection continued for two more weeks in our Community Room with a table, craft supplies and drop-off box, giving the opportunity for Y members and community members to participate.
The Togetherhood® program operates throughout individual YMCAs as a partnership between a committee of Y members and a Y staff advisor. It is designed to be a simple, fun and rewarding way for members to identify ways that they can give back and support their neighbors through their own ideas, skills and energy, and the network of the Y.
