Group Fitness Classes and Schedules

Below is a brief description of our classes as well as links to help you get a good feel for each class and find the right class(es) for you! We very much appreciate your feedback for times/days or types of group fitness classes.  As our membership grows, we’ll continue to add classes. You do not need to be a Northfield Y Member in order to take a Group Exercise Class, only our swimming classes are for Northfield Y Members ONLY.

Member Information

Effective Monday March 5th, the following classes will be able to accommodate only the listed number of participants.  We are implementing this to ensure that during the class participants can perform the exercises in a safe manner without risk of injury or contact with another person or equipment.  This will allow the participants in the class to receive a consistent and positive experience. Participants can sign up the Monday before the class for that week’s class by calling 507-664-7349

-Monday Kettlebells 5 pm (Limited to 8 Participants)

-Tuesday Zumba 5:30 pm (Limited to 18 Participants)

-Wednesday Zumba 5:30pm (Limited to 18 Participants)

-Thursday Power 6:30 pm (Limited to 12 Participants)

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR THREE WINNERS OF THE MARCH 2012 GROUP EXERCISE CHALLENGE:

In the month of March the Northfield YMCA Wellness Center set out a challenge for our members.  Come to twelve group exercise classes between March 1st and March 31st and your name will be put into a drawing for a free YMCA Hooded Sweatshirt. Congratulations to our winners!!!

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is all about improving your strength and stamina through a rugged workout.  Class consists of sports drills, weights, jumping rope, boxing, circuits, and interval training.  This class will be held outdoors and during inclemently weather inside.

Cardio Kick

Great cardio workout involving numerous cardio and kickboxing techniques. Maximize your level of cardio endurance along with toning your body all while having a blast.

Core Fitness
Looking for a different way to trim up that midsection?  Here’s the place! Tone the mid-section (abs, back, and sides) with this innovative class. You will feel results working the abdominal, obliques, and lower back muscles utilizing a variety of exercise equipment

Kettlebells

Heart pumping workout that uses Kettlebells to challenge the entire body. Previous Kettlebell experience is required OR attendance in a YMCA Intro to Kettlebells Class. CLASS SIZES ARE LIMITED TO 8 PARTICIPANTS.  Feel Free to bring your own Kettlebell.

Pilates

Based on the exercises originally designed by Joseph  Pilates, this is a highly effective conditioning method that works out your “power house” muscles-the abdominals, low back, thighs, and buttocks.

Power

This class strengthens the major muscles through simple, athletic movements including squats, lunges, presses, curls, and abs!  Great for both men and women of all ages and fitness levels who want to tone and define their entire body! THURSDAY NIGHTS POWER IS LIMITED TO 12 PARTICIPANTS. Please sign up the Monday before the class to reserve your spot for that week by calling 507-664-7349.

Come join us for the great cardio workout using step benches, that builds confidence, coordination, burns calories, and builds muscle tone. You will have a blast in this fantastic class.

Strength Fusion
Strengthen those muscles and tone your body with this slow paced strength class. Excellent way to amplify strengthening exercises you may already be doing.

TNT (Tight & Tone)

Simple, low impact movements using a variety of equipment to sculpt your body and improve muslce definition.

Zumba

Try the latest craze Zumba! Zumba incorporates Latin music and dance movements to give you a very effective cardio and muscle-toning workout. The dance steps are easy to follow and no prior dance experience is necessary. IT’S CONTAGIOUS! TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, and FRIDAY NIGHT ZUMBA CLASS IS LIMITED TO 18 PARTICIPANTS. FRIDAY NIGHT ZUMBA IS LIMITED TO ONLY MEMBERS. Zumba on Fridays will be every other Friday. Please sign up for the Zumba classes the Monday before the class to reserve your spot by calling 507-664-7349

Intro to Kettlebells

Come join our intro classes to Kettlebells.  Kick start your 2012 get-fit resolutions with a time efficient way to improve: cardio-respiratory fitness, muscle strength, endurance. All while simultaneously enhancing balance, core strength, coordination, and posture!  This heart-pumping workout recruits the entire body providing you with an entire workout in just 30 minutes. This Class is a pre-requist to taking Kettlebells

Swimming
The YMCA is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Northfield Senior Center.Open Swim & Aqua Fitness Classes are for 18+ year olds only (as requested by the Senior Center). Family Swim members must all be potty trained. Any costs associated with swimming are to help the Y pay the per use cost of the pool.

Adult Open Swimming
Excellent workout for Adults and for rehabilitation purposes. ONLY Open to those that are 18+ and are NORTHFIELD AREA YMCA MEMBERS. Cost is $1 per visit.

Aqua Fitness Classes
Group Exercise fun in the pool! Join us for an excellent and easy-on-your-body workout at the Senior Center. ONLY Open to NORTHFIELD AREA YMCA MEMBERS. First 8 visits per month are free.

Family Swim
Swimming for you and your family (all family members must be potty trained). Splash, Laugh, Giggle and get some great family exercise at the Senior Center Pool!. ONLY open to NORTHFIELD AREA YMCA MEMBERS. Family Members are Free.


Classes are open to members or nonmembers.  Nonmembers must pay a $5 guest pass fee per class.  A one-time Nonmember waiver form is required to be completed. Child Watch is available and is free to members and $3 per two hours for nonmembers or Adult Members.
