Group Fitness Classes and Schedules

Welcome to YMCA Group Exercise Fitness! Below is a brief description of our classes as well as links to help you get a good feel for each class and find the right class(es) for you!

We very much appreciate your feedback for times/days or types of group fitness classes.  As our membership grows, we’ll continue to add classes.

Member Information

Members and Nonmembers!

  • Forza! Kettlebell Group Exercise classes: Ramp up your workout!  Build core strength, excellent cardio workout, weight bearing activity, links mind and body, improves flexibility. This is a collaboration with Forza! and is a fee-based class.Cost for each 30 minute class will be $5 for members/$7 for nonmembers.   • Skating Lap Fitness. All levels. Fast-paced skating has beenprovided to be just as aerobically beneficial as running. Join us in the collaboration with the Northfield Skating School. Classes available for a fee at the Ice Arena (with member discounts).  Need:  Skates and Smiles! For more information, click on the “Skating Lap Fitness” under the Programs tab.
  • Core Conditioning. All levels.  Tone and firm up your muscles.  Focus on intensity and zero in on proper techniques – a great way to sculpt muscles without bulking up.  Get ready to set your muscles on fire!  Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.
  • Pilates. All levels. Based on the exercises originally designed by Joseph Pilates, this is a highly effective conditioning method that works out your “power house” muscles – the abdominals, lower back, thighs and buttocks.  Each movement emphasizes proper body alignment and breathing techniques.  You’ll build strength, increase your flexibility, develop agility, improve your posture and deepen body awareness.  Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.   • Active Lifestyle Stretch/Strength. All levels. Upper body work – excellent way to amplify stretch and strengthen exercises you may already be doing.  Everyday people focusing on exercises you can do for an active lifestyle. Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass
  • Hip Hop Hustle for Beginners. Beg level.  Ready for something new? Try this insanely delicious and fun workout.  Simple dance moves to Hip Hop style music.  So, you think you can’t dance and don’t know how to “hip hop”?  Well if you can Hustle or do a simple line dance, you can Hip Hop Hustle!  Class is completely user-friendly designed hip hop class that’s easy to follow.  Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.   • Zumba for Beginners. Beg level.  Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin dance. We utilize the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. It’s a way of mixing body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps.  It’s fun and addictive and  wonderful to see so many people having fun while getting fit. Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.   • Stretch/Strength Class. All levels. Stretch those tires muscles.  Strengthen them and see yourself gain energy, flexibility and stress relief.  Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass
  • Step I. Beg level. Build confidence and coordination with this low impact intense workout.  Moderate in intensity, this workout combines cardiovascular endurance with muscle conditioning.  Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass
  • Boot Camp. Beg level. Whatever your sport is, improve your strength and stamina through a rugged workout of sports drills, weights, jump rope, boxing, circuits and interval training. Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.
  • Wild Step Aerobics. Beg level.  Moderate in intensity, this workout combines cardiovascular endurance with core muscle conditioning.  1/2 the class is aerobic and 1/2 is core conditioning. Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.
  • Cardio Circuit Mix. Beg level.  Treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, step, medicine balls, resistabands, dumbbells – this high energy, high cardio circuit mix class includes a 10 min warm-up, 30-40 min of high intensity cardio and a 10 min cool down and core work.  Class is different every week – never boring and an excellent workout!   • Total Body Strength Class. All levels. Taught by a Certified Personal Trainer – This class gives you personal attention in a strength and cardio workout.  You don’t hve to kill yourself lifting weights and there are no dance, step or kicks in this class.  Work at your own pace, build your ‘tool box’ of exercises.  Come once or every class.  Child Care is available for participants in this class.   • Drums Alive. All levels and all ages. Move, groove and drum to rthymic music using a stability ball, group fitness combining fitness and music and rhythm for all ages welcome!   • TurboKick. All levels. The hottest kickboxing class around! Combines athletic moves, sports drills, hip hop flavor and more. Ready to take your kickboxing to a new and fun level? Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass (introductory price). For more information about TurboKick Click Here.
  • Above the Belt Sculpt. This 30 minute class focuses on toning the upper body (chest, arms shoulders) along with the core to develop a strong and flexible muscles using a variety of weight bearing exercises and apparatus from the resist-a-balls to the free weights.   Designed for all levels of fitness.  No choreography or previous experience required.
  • Below the Belt Sculpt. A 30 minute format designed to strengthen and tone the entire lower body and abdominal region.  Simple yet effective exercises to build leaner & longer muscles while maintaining a strong core conditioning.  No choreography or previous experience required.
  • Strength Toning Class. Strengthen those muscles and tone your body with this slow paced strength class. Excellent way to amplify strengthening exercises you may already be doing.
  • Tai Chi. Incorporates balance, flexibility, relaxation and muscular strengthening which benefits body, mind and spirit. Join us for slow, controlled movements – that are learned in an on-going process. Reduce stress and feel like a million bucks! For more information about Tai Chi Click Here
  • Pre/Post Natal & Beg Group Ex: Low-impact aerobics & core strengthening designed to meet the needs of new and expectant mothers. This gentle class is also perfect for anyone who wants a low-key introduction to group exercise. Babies who cannot crawl yet are welcome to join!
  • Body Sculpt: Strengthen those muscles and tone your body. Excellent way to amplify strengthen exercises you may already be doing.
  • Stability Ball: Strengthen those muscles and tone your body with this slow paced strength class using a stability ball!
  • NEW! Swimming: The YMCA is pleased to annnounce a new collaboration with the Northfield Senior Center.Open Swim & Aqua Fitness Classes are for 18+ year olds only (as requested by the Senior Center). Family Swim members must all be potty trained. Any costs associated with swimming are to help the Y pay the per use cost of the pool.
  • Cardio Step & Tone.  All levels.  Improve your cardiovascular fitness and build confidence and coordination with this fun low impact moderately intense workout.  A portion of each class is dedicated to body sculpting and/or flexibility.  Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass
  • Mix it Up Boot Camp. All levels.  Variety is the spice of life and exercise!  Chase away the workout blahs with this rugged workout that includes things like: sports drills, weights, jump rope, boxing, stability / medicine ball, resistabands, circuits and intervals. Free to Members/$5 Guest Pass.

Classes are open to members or nonmembers.  Nonmembers must pay a $5 guest pass fee per class.  A one-time Nonmember waiver form is required to be completed. Child Watch is available and is free to members and $3 per two hours for nonmembers or Adult Members.
