Drum Making and Group Drumming
(An Educational collaboration between Laura Baker Services and Northfield Area Family YMCA)
(For All Ages)
Looking for an upbeat way to start the New Year? A new class offered by Laura Baker Services and Northfield Area Family YMCA might be what you are looking for. Drum Making and Group Drumming is a class in which participants will build their own drums and engage in group drumming experiences. The five-week class is opento people of all ages and abilities. It will be conducted at Laura Baker Service’s Millis Dining Hall, 211 Oak St. Northfield, MN. Jennifer Pelletier, a music therapist at Laura Baker Services who has experiences working with people of all ages and abilities, will lead the hour-long class. She will be assisted by Laura Baker volunteers and YMCA staff and volunteers. Each week participants will also have a chance to work with others in group drumming exercises. Because some of the steps involved in making the drums may be difficult for younger participants, youngsters 12 and under will be required to be accompanied by an adult. Caregivers and adults accompanying youngsters will not be required to pay for the class. Because this class is open to people of all ages, this will provide an opportunity for intergenerational learning and communication.
