The YMCA in Northfield is always interested in new group exercise instructors.  No matter if you are an experienced instructor or long-time participant and you are interested in becoming an instructor – we have a place for you (training and mentoring available).  PT Group Fitness Instructors Salary based on experience and specific class offering

Group Fitness hours:
Monday – Friday 5:45 am – 10:45 pm
Monday – Thursday 4:15 pm – 6:45 – pm
Saturday 8:45 am – 11:15 am

Job Duties:
Lead quality group fitness classes
Conduct energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes .
Maintain working knowledge of fitness industry and YMCA trends to provide effective information and training to members.
Keep accurate class attendance records.

Required Qualifications:
National Certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Certification. Required within 6 months. YMCA will provide available classes.
YMCA Healthy Lifestyles within 90 days of hire (provided by YMCA).
Adult CPR/AED certifications (classes made available by the YMCA).
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Additional certification in area of expertise; i.e. Les Mills (Body Pump)

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching group fitness classes.


Applications are still being accepted for positions in our Prairie & Wood Camp program. 

We are very interested in candidates that are bilingual.  No need to be an expert in any particular program areas – just enjoy working with kids, experience giving direction to kids and an interest in being a role model ! We have a wide variety of positions open.  Work just a few hours per work or more based on your availability. 

Positions (in brief) we’ll be hiring for:

  • Working with Youth Positions (see more details in link above)
  • Child Watch (babysitting at the Health & Wellness Center)
  • Group exercise instructors
