Annual Fundraising Campaign
Northfield Area Family YMCA
2009 Annual Campaign
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN REPORT
In 2008, the Northfield Area Family YMCA (NAFY) launched its first Annual Campaign to gather the financial support needed to fulfill its mission of providing beneficial programs and services to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. We are grateful for the 53 individuals and businesses who contributed a combined total of nearly $20,000 to this campaign. These donations were immediately used in the following ways.
Scholarship Support
The NAFY awarded direct scholarships to 40 families in 2008, including over 70 children in our community. Families receiving support come from a wide variety of backgrounds including those experiencing layoffs, limited income, salary reductions, divorce, mental and physical disabilities, single parent households and military service.
Program Scholarship Highlights
28 of the 127 individual kids in summer camps received scholarships.
5 of the 23 kids in the Youth In Government program received scholarships.
12 youth, 8 families and 4 adults received membership scholarships.
11 youth received scholarships for youth sport programs.
Mission in Action – Scholarship Recipients Share Their Stories
“My husband just came back from Iraq and the Y’s scholarship helped us get back on our feet.”
“I’m raising my granddaughter and never expected to provide summer child care, I can’t tell you how much the support helps us.”
“My daughter really wants to participate in Youth in Government but we can’t afford the fee. She wouldn’t have this opportunity without the Y’s scholarship support.”
“My husband was laid off a few months ago and I was laid off last week, we need assistance now.”
“Having newborn twins was unexpected and is very expensive. The Y’s financial support for our older kids involved in summer programs is tremendously helpful!”
Program Subsidies
In addition to providing direct scholarship to families, the Annual Campaign is used to subsidize safe and beneficial programs for families. To ensure the safety of all NAFY program participants, over 60 staff received training in First Aid and CPR. An additional 25 staff received child abuse prevention training. We also hosted another Healthy Kids Day, a community-wide event offered every Spring to educate and actively engage kids and parents in healthy initiatives.
